In my opinion, using monetary incentives as a motivation for KP 2 students to get better results is not a good or better way to motivate them. The questions that keep appearing in my mind is that is this action good for the students or bad for them. The best answer for this question is no.Giving money for KP2 students to motivate them to achieve a better grades brings more bad impacts then benefits. First, they will have no interest in the knowledge. The second point is for me monetary rewards is no more than bribery and the third point is that it will take the intrinsic value out of learning.
Knowledge is the most valuable things that and we can use it till the end of our lives. Giving money as a reward to motivate KP2 students to get a better grades will give them the wrong ideas and the will have no interest and intention in knowledge. They will only study hard for their grades just for the money and not to gain the knowledge. If we stops giving the money what will happen to them. Will they still work hard to get better grades? My answer will be no. As we all know knowledge is a source of power.
In my opinion, monetary rewards is no more than bribery. Bribery teaches the students to expect payoffs for their efforts which is having a better grades. They will less likely to do the task such as tutorials and assignments even the task is enjoyable for them. All this will only send them a bad message about learning. In the end the will never appreciate the value of learning and knowledge. The will set in their mind that learning and knowledge only have monetary value.
Giving monetary rewards will soon gives the students more extrinsic form of motivation. This type of motivations will only hurt the students in the future. Learning should be fun and enjoyable not being bribe by money just for better results. Soon enough, this action will take the intrinsic value out of learning. Intrinsic value is the actual value and in this case its the learning value.
As the conclusion, students should not be motivate by using money just to make them to work for better grades. We should show the the best and enjoyable way of learning to make them achieve a better grades because knowledge and learning have their own value and should not being compared with money.
